Eli and I had a blast bidding 2009 farewell at a party and welcoming 2010 in Jesus’ Mansion! And we hope you had a fun and meaningful one too!
The last few hours of 2009 evaporated beneath our dancing feet as Eli and I rocked it up at Waldorf’s renown New Year’s Eve party.
We were the only couple in white – we did not coordinate our outfits and were pleasantly surprised when we stripped off our coats – while the others were in black or red. Many dresses were much to be desired. Makes one wonder if the fashion in Vancouver is that far behind, people here have no fashion sense or just cannot be bothered. Or perhaps, chicken or the egg, which came first?
I’m not into the nightlife and don’t actually dance because, as it turns out, I am too lazy to lift my legs and don’t know what to do with my arms. However, this New Year’s Eve I was high! High from love and laughter Eli injects into my life.
Eli and I were the first couple on the dance floor and while we drifted back and forth to our seats throughout the night, we constantly found ourselves in the middle of the floor. At one point of the evening, everyone suddenly cleared off the floor and Eli swept me off my feet and we really got the party started for everyone. Twirls and dips, shaking, rocking and slow dancing.
I had fun dancing with my man tonight. A lot of fun.
As 2010 drew closer, Eli and I adjourned to St Mary’s Parish for New Year’s Mass. It is actually the Solemnity of Mary, Mother of God.
Mother Mary is so special to me because I truly believe she brought Eli to me. Those seemingly hopeless days of standing before her silently praying for her to bring my sweetheart to me paid off when she brought Eli into my life one unsuspecting September. The Sweetheart Prayer really works!
I took the opportunity to thank Mother Mary for her unceasing intercession and being the best matchmaker ever! I also humbly asked for her to help me be a more virtuous woman just as she is, as well as to be more faithful to Jesus, and please not to give up on me!
After Mass, Eli took me aside, held me close and said the sweetest words. We said a simple prayer together and handed the year 2010 to Jesus. May His will be done!
Eli held my hand throughout the drive home, occasionally lifting them to his lips, and frequently turning his gaze to look at me, and always meeting my eyes because yes I can’t stop looking at him. He has such beautiful eyes!
What a wonderful way to begin the new year… The love of my life and I in the house of our heavenly matchmaker, praying together, driving home together hand in hand, appreciating each other, and then in the comfort and warmth of home – sharing a cup of camomile tea and chocolate-almond-caramel brittle, storytelling under a blanket-tent and being in the company of each other, so close I could hear his heartbeat, so soothing and so secure.
Sweetheart, I want to start every New Year this way… Right through to my last New Year ever. Bhibak kteer Habibi.
