A Woman I Respect and Admire

Eli’s sista showed me her post-baby tummy the other day. I am ashamed to say that being in her late 30s and a mother of three, she has a flatter and more defined abdomen than I do.

“When I grow up, I want to be just like your sista,” I told Eli this evening.

This puzzled him. I’m not easily impressed and I have inherited the never-satisfied genes from my mom. So for him to hear me admit looking up to someone, he had to triple check. It’s all the more puzzling when the someone is his sista. A sista he loves to bits but never thought he’d hear his lady say she wants to be.

Or perhaps it scared him that I want to be just like his big sister.

But why not? She is an intelligent woman, kindhearted, has a beautiful face and a gorgeous body. Successful wife and mother, she runs her entire house without domestic help. She has built a life for her husband and children in a land foreign to her simply because it would be easier for her husband. Her children are also super adorable, handsome and well-behaved! We were in a video conference when her second son, at 7 years of age, tugged at her sleeve and asked politely, “Can we have lunch?”

I want to be a good wife to Eli and a do-it-all mom to our children. I see myself looking to his sista for plenty of advice. At the top of my list of questions is how she inculcates discipline in them, particularly getting them to behave in Church.

I do also want to be a hot mama. You think Demi Moore is hot and pretty? You haven’t seen Eli’s sista! She doesn’t have wads of cash to throw around or invest in cosmetic enhancers. She’s naturally beautiful.

But I could do with domestic help.

Read the discussion Eli and I had about hiring domestic help.
