Tweetdeck is a desktop application popular amongst users of Twitter, a large social network that allows snippets of 140 characters. Many love Tweetdeck, but I somehow don’t and this is why…
What can I say about Tweetdeck? Everyone else seems to love it but I don’t.
I used it for about a week and I was more than done with it and ready to stick to using Twitter web.
Firstly, Tweetdeck took up a relatively large amount of memory. I render graphics and videos on top of word processing and html editing programs, the extra toll on my computer was unnecessary.
Secondly, there was no advantage of using Tweetdeck if used solely for Twitter. So I added Facebook. Facebook updates depleted Tweetdeck API fast! And I really didn’t need real time updates of associates. I’ll peek at Facebook only when I decide to stalk someone, Tweetdeck took that fun away.
Thirdly, running Tweetdeck in the background was distracting and disruptive. Whenever someone posted an update, a little popup would alert me. While I love that about my email program, where legitimate and actually important updates come in, I didn’t need that for Twitter. I would check out Tweets and trends when I want to procrastinate and be “in with the times”.
Fourthly, the interface was a tad too overwhelming for me. I like my desktop clean and clutter free. However, Tweetdeck was just a whole bunch of stuff. Narrow columns of random tidbits I don’t care too much about and definitely do not need to add to the amount of stuff I go through each day.
My dear Twitter friends, this isn’t personal. It isn’t that I don’t care about what is happening in your life, if I didn’t, I wouldn’t be “following” you. But I will check up on what went and is going on in your life when I actually have the time and heart to check you out. I literally sit down and read every single tweet. I am this kind of friend. Selective and sincere.
This concludes me trial of Tweetdeck. It works great for others, but not suited for my way.
Uninstall.
