A walk along the pier

What do you do on a rainy day?

A decade ago, my brother and I would don our yellow raincoats and muck around my dad’s pond in the garden. We would play with the filtration system, scoop water and I don’t know, just get really wet. We also found out how glistening white rain water makes our shoes.

Today, Eli and I donned our fun jackets and danced along the pier. Basking in the orange glow of distant lights, we took full advantage of the Fall blessing that rains down upon Vancouver daily.

It was a magical evening. There is something so liberating about being in the rain and getting lost in the flicker of distant lights, and such a blessing to be able to share the experience with the love of my life.

The love of my life who had earlier in the evening scared the insides out of me by driving head-first into the boat launch and then allow the car to keep rolling forward while telling me that he doesn’t think the car would be able to pull back up given the steep slope we were on. The water kept creeping up on us and I was prepared to hop out of the car and attempt to push it! With each “attempt” to back the car up, the car just kept rolling a few feet forward, and I was definitely panicking. I am not ready to die!

A part of me blames myself for telling him that the boat launch is there and we probably shouldn’t drive in that direction.

Nevertheless, we survived and went on to have a romantic evening by the water and even had an outdoor fireplace that mesmerized us and kept us snug for the time we were standing before it.

We then headed home and made ourselves a very cozy corner, curled up to watch reality TV and eat junk food.

Rainy days are fun!
