We were victims to a very violent and bloody assault last night. I don’t know how much I can disclose about it since it is a criminal case and we intend to press charges against the assailant. But I do know that I spent what was to be a wonderful romantic Friday night screaming, trembling, calling 911, crying into a kind stranger’s arms, giving police statements and four hours in the emergency room, involving stitches, gluing of flesh, tetanus shot, xray, putting in a splint, a broken nose and a rib fracture near the heart. Then I spent today scrubbing out blood stains.

The RCMP who responded to the scene said this is one of the worst assault she has ever seen, and she has unfortunately seen a lot.

I pray for justice to be done. But it will never be enough because the assailant will walk while we live with the physical, emotional and mental scars for the rest of our lives.

I am typing this on my phone, my blood-stained phone and thinking, this phone wasn’t very handy in a life and death situation.
